That old broken clock,
It never worked anyway.
A key to the box
Where I stuffed my heart away.
A mimosa tree seed
For the love of my grandfather.
A branch of mountain ash
For my long lost daughter.
A map of my soul
To hand my beloved.
A vase full of tears,
The flowers long since dead.
A leather-bound book
That I’ve torn the pages out.
Sewing needles and thread
So I can piece my life back together.
A candle wedged into its holder,
Feeble, yes, but still burning bright.
