Dear Family and Friends,
Danielle Kilburn is a 10-year-old girl, living in Florissant, Mo; and she has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She is very dear to our hearts as a daughter, sister, granddaughter, friend, cousin, niece, classmate, student, band member, teammate, and much more.
Danielle lives with her mother, Lisa Thompson, a self-employed small business owner, her stepfather, Matt Thompson, a Florissant Police Officer, and her younger brother, Trevor. Danielle is a 5th grader at Lawson Elementary School, where she is on the student council and plays the Alto-Sax in the school band. She was preparing for her role as one of the starting pitchers on her softball team.
In February, Danielle discovered a lump on her neck and her days were suddenly filled with doctor appointments; getting her blood drawn, x-rays, and body scans. On March 11th, Danielle’s world was turned upside down when a biopsy confirmed that Danielle is a victim of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a form of cancer of the blood and lymph nodes.
Danielle is undergoing treatment in the Oncology Unit at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, in a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment plan. She is receiving six treatments a month for at least 6 to 8 months, which will be followed by radiation therapy for an undetermined amount of time.
As you can imagine, this type of care is extremely expensive. Danielle’s stepfather, Matt, has medical coverage, through the City of Florissant. However, as with most medical plans, there are extensive out of pocket expenses including deductibles, co-pays, prescription drugs, and the loss of income that her mother, Lisa, has lost, as she has been forced to take a unpaid leave of absence from the salon to care for Danielle.
Due to this severe financial strain, along with the emotional stress, this benefit has been established to help aid in paying these exorbitant costs for the family.
